Our Mission
The Artemis Council, founded by Wess Burgner, exists to support the children often left behind in the shadows of addiction. Through mentorship, community partnerships, and access to critical resources, we help children navigate the emotional challenges of having a parent with substance use disorder. Our mission, shaped by Wess Burgner’s personal journey through addiction and recovery, is to break the cycle by helping these kids feel seen, supported, and safe.
What We Do
Four ways we show up for children and families today.
Resource kits and care connections
We put practical tools and age-appropriate information into the hands of children and the adults who care for them, and connect families with support that fits their situation.
Referrals to counseling and education programs
We help families find counseling and education programs so children can get professional support and understand addiction in a way that makes sense for their age.
Community events and outreach
We bring people together to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and make sure children affected by a parent’s addiction are seen in their community.
Why I Started The Artemis Council
I wasn’t supposed to make it here.
My name is Wess Burgner, and I battled addiction, consequences, and the wreckage that follows. But in that darkness, I found clarity. Not just in recovery, but in seeing the pain left behind for others. Especially the children.
I created The Artemis Council to be a lifeline for them, for the kids impacted by addiction who deserve to feel safe, supported, and seen.
